Six Sigma and SQC Tools Application in Process Management

Six sigma may sound arcane and mystical, but reality it is a mathematical formula  “Sigma” is Statistical term indicating to what extent a process varies from perfection.  The number of units processed is multiplied by the number of potential defects per unit.

The answer is divided into the number of defects actually occurring and then is multiplied by one million.  The result is the number of defects per million operations, translates to Six Sigma is used to cut down on wastage at all levels, as well as increase process efficiency.

Objectives :  

  • To enable ;organizations to attain Continuous Improvement as vehicle towards TQM adoption & Customers’ satisfaction.
  • To impart common uniformity quality measurement techniques for all business areas.
  • It helps for goal directed incentives for both employees and management 

CONTENTS:

Module 1:

Six Sigma Introduction:  Definition of Six Sigma, key, elements, strategies, Organizational steps by step approach for building six sigma approach.

Project Guidelines and Selection:  Six Sigma project selection, common problems & scope of productive teams work

Dependent and Independent variables

Distributions:  Common distributions other than the normal.  Characteristics and when they are used.

Statistical Tests:  Correlation and regression.  Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)

Leadership and Motivation and TEI:  Motivation, time management, performance, indicators.

 

Module 2:

Customer Service: Economics and Returns, Cycle Time Reduction, Measurement Analysis

Creating Customer Service Plan  Basic methods of gaining customer feedback, and

Measuring customer satisfaction.

Measurement Initial Evaluation:  Evaluation of the measurement system early in the Six Sigma projects.  This includes the purpose of the measurement, the system involved, short-term stability, bias and discrimination

Economic Evaluation:  Methods for evaluating projects economics including  Return on Investment (ROI)

 

Module 3:

Project Management Introduction, Planning a Project:  Usage of tools / techniques to plan their projects Critical Path Method (CPM)

Reading Control Charts:  Common cause and special cause variation, responsibility to investigate, different kinds of signals.

X Bar R Charts:  How to construct, sub size, understanding range chart, understanding X Bar Chart.

XmR Charts:  Developing, applications and interpretation

 

Module 5 :

Procedures and Control Plan & Reliability Engineering:  Interface:

Installation of QMS models through ISO 9002/14001 and TQM Assessment Award Criteria Writing Procedures and Instructions, Records and Statements Audits:  I, II & IIIrd Party Auditing & Surveillance Audit Integration of ISO 9000 (94 & 2000) Models with Six Sigma Plus failures

  • ·          Field visit and implant to a six sigma practicing unit 

Duration:

TWO weeks.  The course is from one Monday to Friday of the week with In plant study at an Six sigma practicing organization

The programme is imparted through class room lecture sessions, field visits, role-pay  syndicate group exercise and case study presentation fro practicing units
